The Myth of the Honest Broker

T

Only the United States would have the sheer arrogance and delusion to refer to itself as an “honest broker” or try to convince the world that it’s seeking a “peaceful solution” to the Palestinian issue while sabotaging any possibility of peace by moving its embassy to Jerusalem and inaugurating it during Palestinians protests in memory of the Palestinian Nakba or Holocaust. Only Trump would assign the world’s most difficult peace negotiations to a child whose political and diplomatic expertise is precisely zero. Only Nimrata Haley, who goes by the name “Nikki” would BRAG to AIPAC that she got a Palestinian kicked out of a United Nations position only on account of his being a Palestinian and only “Nikki,” as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations while Trump is President and after more than 50 Palestinians have been murdered and around 2,000 injured, would walk out on a United Nations assembly when the Palestinian delegation takes the stand to speak and still somehow expect the world to take her seriously as an official and as a diplomat and as somebody whose loyalties lie with American interests while she destroys whatever hopes the United States could possibly have still had of being taken seriously as a moderator for any peace process whatsoever.

America divided Palestine when they stood with the Palestinian ‘Authority’ against Hamas despite Hamas winning that election more than a decade ago. The PA fell for it because they were old, corrupt, deluded, and power-hungry. Now the PA, like Iran last week, has learned what comes from making deals with America or relying on American diplomacy.

The real lesson is that American diplomacy is, and always has been, a misnomer, something which the Japanese learned the hard way back in the late 1800s when they were forced to sign a trade treaty with America while American destroyers pointed their guns at them.
